Coaches,

It is time to make sure that you have the correct credentials to gain access to coach at the MNUSAW State Kids/Cadet Folkstyle tournament. If you present the following items, it is then a matter of finding the Coaching Pass table in the weigh-in area and purchasing a pass for $10.

1. A current USAW “Wrestling Leader” membership card with a photo printed on the card, or valid photo ID drivers license.

2. On the “Wrestling Leader” card evidence that you have completed either a NCEP Copper or the Bronze Coaches Certification.

3. Paperwork showing that you have completed “Heads Up” or similar concussion training (such as that provided for MSHSL coaches). This concussion training is now available in the USAW membership system and if completed there, will print on the “Wrestling Leader card just like the Copper/Bronze Certification.

If you don’t have the Copper or Bronze Certification you must:

Option 1, attend a pre-tournament “Coaching Etiquette” meeting. Those meetings will be approx. 20 minutes long and be after all weigh-in sessions.

Option 2, take an online test and score 85%. Record of you taking and passing that test will be at the table where the coaching passes are sold.

BE AWARE THAT MNUSAW IS DOING AWAY WITH THE “COACHING ETIQUETTE MEETINGS” AND THE ON-LINE TEST IN 2021. ALL COACHES MUST HAVE COMPLETED A COPPER AND/OR BRONZE COACHING CERTIFICATION TO BE ABLE TO COACH. A “Wrestling Leader” Membership with evidence of concussion training is also required.

Further explanation and Links to all of the above can be found on the MNUSA website “Coaches Corner” page.

Attaining a “Wrestling Leader” membership that includes the SafeSport training takes some time to complete. The USAW membership background check can take up to two weeks. Don’t wait until the last minute.

All of these hoops are being put in place to protect our youth from abuse and exposure to predators.

Special pricing in attaining both Copper and Bronze Certification is available for Minnesota coaches for 2020 membership year only.

Contact Tom Kuisle for that information.
