Intense Showdown Marks Final Round of pools at the2024 MN/USA Wrestling State Duals

Rochester, MN. – 3/14/2024:  The 2024 MN/USA Wrestling State Duals reached a fever pitch in the third and final round as teams battled fiercely for top placement in the championship pools. One matchup that stood out was the thrilling dual between Becker and New Prague, both entering the round undefeated after impressive victories over Zimmerman and NRHEG.

The showdown between Becker and New Prague promised fireworks, with both teams determined to secure the title for their pool. New Prague kicked off the match in dominant fashion, with their lightweights delivering standout performances. Bowen Connelly set the tone with a commanding 15-3 major decision victory at 48lbs, followed by falls from Jack Wagner, Miles Artmann, and Blake Seifert.

Becker stopped the bleeding with back-to-back wins from Liam and Easton Hamacher before New Prague would jump out to a 40-7 lead after 84lbs. with wins from Jack Hogan, Aden Czepa, Ben Luchsinger, and Cash Tolzman. 

Becker refused to back down, mounting a remarkable comeback with six weights remaining and trailing by 33 points. The Bulldogs rallied with a fall from Harper Hamacher. Aaron Malikowski's major decision over Owen Czepa at 92lbs and Ben Anderson's quick fall at 100lbs further fueled Becker's resurgence, setting the stage for a dramatic finish.

With the victory hanging in the balance, Becker needed to pin out to secure the win. In a display of determination, Wyatt Johnson and Winston Collision delivered, securing the crucial pins needed to cap off the remarkable 41-40 comeback victory for the Bulldogs.

Both Becker and New Prague earned their spots in the Gold Championship bracket this afternoon. New Prague is set to face Flat Earth, while Becker will square off against Wayzata. The other matchups in the gold bracket include Centennial vs. Stillwater and Lakeville vs. Northfield, promising more exhilarating action as teams vie for championship title.

The 2024 MN/USA Wrestling State Duals have been fun with thrilling matchups and displays of athleticism and determination.
