Day 2 Recap of USMC National Championships in Fargo Highlights Minnesota's Aspen Blasko Winning a Fargo Title

Fargo, ND – July 14, 2024: The USA Wrestling National Championships culminated in an electrifying Championship Sunday for the Women’s Freestyle events. Team Minnesota proudly boasts seven All-Americans, highlighted by a stellar performance from Junior National Champion Aspen Blasko.

Aspen Blasko, competing at 120 lbs. in the Junior division, dominated her weight class with six consecutive victories, amassing a combined score of 47-2 and securing three falls. Blasko showcased her dominance in every match, culminating in a thrilling finals bout against Savannah Witt from Pennsylvania. Witt had previously defeated Blasko earlier this spring, but Blasko was relentless in her quest for redemption. She opened with a quick 2-point takedown and added a step-out point to lead 3-0. Blasko then executed a go-behind takedown and secured double boots, finishing with a half-nelson to seal her victory in spectacular fashion. The pure joy and disbelief on her face as she received her hand-raise at the center of the mat was truly special.

In the 16U division, Bianca Eide achieved a commendable 6th place finish in the 106 lb. bracket. Eide's journey to the podium included four consecutive wins. Kayla Pastika secured 4th place at 88 lbs., bolstered by two significant victories in the consolation rounds. Cassandra Gonzales and Sarah Pulk each finished their tournaments with a win, earning 3rd place finishes. Gonzales posted a 7-1 record, and Pulk finished 5-1, both clinching their final matches on criteria in exciting fashion.

In the Junior division, Caley Graber and Audrey Rogotzke each earned 5th place finishes. Graber, who faced an upset loss in the quarter-finals to Mariah Dillard from Texas, triumphed in their rematch with a decisive 12-2 victory in her medal match. Rogotzke continued her pinning prowess, securing five falls throughout the tournament, including her 5th place match against Selina Moore from New York.

The competition continues on Monday at 9 am with Junior Men’s Freestyle action, followed by the 16U cadets in the afternoon. Men’s Freestyle will conclude with the championship finals and medal matches on Wednesday, July 17th.
