I’ve got some great news about Moorhead Youth Wrestling Club. Moorhead Youth Wrestling has received the Gold Medal Club Award from the National Office of USA Wrestling. The USA Wrestling organization has more than 24,000 registered clubs throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. This year, a total of just 9 clubs were recognized as Gold Medal Clubs. Moorhead Youth Wrestling Club was one of them. I’ve attached a photo of the award and letter that came with award.

Skip Toops and Matt Henry were instrumental in forming the club. Skip has been a great ambassador for wrestling in Moorhead. He’s really energized the youth base by organizing free after school wrestling programs at the elementary schools in Moorhead during the month of October. The Moorhead Youth Wrestling Club starts up in November with Pre-K to 6th grade Folkstyle practice sessions, participates in youth wrestling duals and tournaments. The wrestling club continues with Greco-Roman and Freestyle in the Spring. Skip conducts youth camps in the summer months.

It is an honor to receive the Gold Medal Club Award. The criteria for obtaining the distinction are as follows: Improvement in membership numbers, participation in events and state programs, participation by club members in USAW’s Coaches Education Program and the USAW Officials Association. Other criteria involve club members being selected to state teams and earning the right to compete at national tournaments.
