Age Divisions and Weight Classes

Weight Classes are used at the MNUSA Freestyle and Greco State Championships and all Regional and National Events.  Scratch weights used at qualifying tournaments. 


Overview of USA Wrestling Events

The purpose of USA Wrestling Events is to provide opportunities for wrestlers of all styles to compete against the best competition, at the regional, national, and international levels. USA Wrestling Events serves parents, coaches and athletes in the most time efficient and cost effective manor, while providing the best experience possible for all involved. USA Wrestling Events aims to exceed the expectations of coaches, parents, officials, volunteers, and the wrestlers themselves at each and every tournament.

USA Wrestling offers events in Women's and Men's Freestyle, Greco-Roman, Folkstyle, Grappling, and Beach.

Whether you are looking for a local tournament to hone your skills or are preparing to become an Olympic champion, the road to success starts with USA Wrestling.

These practices are FREE with a current USA Wrestling Membership Card.  This is a great opportunity to work with high level coaches and training partners at no cost.

2023 Minnesota/USA Wrestling Freestyle & Greco Kick-off Clinic

Date - Saturday March 25th , 2023

Location - University of MN Wrestling Room

Ages - Schoolboy/Girl, Cadet, Junior that are a Current USA Wrestling Card Holder

The cost is $10 cash paid at the door. You MUST SIGN-UP to ATTEND. Deadline is Thursday, March 23rd.

Freestyle/Greco Tournaments

Eastview Freestyle Open

April 8th - this is a FREESTYLE ONLY Tournament. Registration is Required

Frontier Wrestling Club FS/GR Combo Tournament

April 14th - this is a Freestyle/Greco combo tournament. Must register for both styles. Registration will open after MN/USA State Folkstyle.

Apple Valley Freestyle/Greco Open Tournament

April 14th - Friday Night Greco. April 15th- Freestyle. You have the option to wrestle both styles or one or the other. Registration is required.

Forest Lake Freestyle/Greco Combo Tournament

Friday, April 21 - Greco. Saturday, April 22 - Freestyle. You have the option of registering for both styles or one or the other for this tournament. Registration will open after MN/USA Wrestling Folkstyle State Tournament.

Itasca FS/GR Combo Tournament in Grand Rapids

April 22nd - this is a Freestyle/Greco combo tournament. Must register for both styles. Registration will open after MN/USA State Folkstyle.

SMSU FS/GR Combo Tournament

April 23rd - this is a Freestyle/Greco combo tournament. Must register for both styles. Registration will open after MN/USA State Folkstyle.

Hutchinson Freestyle Open

April 29th - this is a FREESTYLE ONLY tournament for this year with the hope of making it a combo next year. It includes a girls only division. Registration is open!

MN/USA Freestyle/Greco State Tournament

Saturday May 6th - GRECO, Sunday May 7th - FREESTYLE. **There is no qualification process this year for the either the Greco or Freestyle State Tournaments. **Divisions: 6U (Pee-Wee): Birth Years 2017 & 2018 8U (Bantam): Birth Years 2015 & 2016 10U (Intermediate): Birth Years 2013 & 2014 12U (Novice): Birth Years 2011 & 2012 14U (Schoolboy/girl): Birth Years 2009 & 2010 16U (Cadet): Birth Years 2007 & 2008 Junior: Born 9/1/2003 & After, plus enrolled in grades 9-12

Northern Plains Regional Championships

May 12-14, 2023 at the Woodside Wisconsin Dells Center. This is a qualifier for the 2023 USMC National Championships in Fargo, ND on July 14th-22nd. This event offers athletes in 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U & Juniors a chance to compete against some of the best wrestlers in the country. This is for both men and women competing in Freestyle and Greco-Roman styles. This event is a great preparation for both Kids Nationals and 16U/Junior National Championships.


Hosting a Minnesota/USA Wrestling Event

We would love to work with you and your upcoming tournament. If you are interested in hosting a tournament that is sanctioned via Minnesota/USA Wrestling, please contact our Open Tournament Director, Noah Glenn.

The approval process is based upon proximity to other events and awarded first to those clubs that have hosted in previous years.  Once approved, we work together on a series of items, such as chartering your club, sanctioning the event, and advertising and promotion of the event.
