16U Cadet UPDATE – APRIL 2024

If you are seeing this letter, you likely have a 16U wrestler in Minnesota and we are encouraging them to participate in the upcoming Freestyle and Greco State Championships in Rochester on Saturday, May 4th for Greco and Sunday, May 5th for Freestyle.  These are open tournaments this year so no need to qualify. You can register for both State tournaments at the following link.  Online registrations closes on Friday, May 3rd at 8:00 p.m. 

• Late registrations after that time will double in cost.
• You can change weights at the scale from what you register at. 
• The champion in each weight at State get an auto spot for the Cadet Nationals in Fargo at that same weight and style. 
• We select most of the Cadet Duals teams from these State tournament results along with some past national placements and Northern Plans results the following weekend in Rochester.

MN/USA Wrestling State FS/GR Registration

Before going further, I want to stress that if your wrestler is wanting to participate in the Fargo National Team process this year, to be eligible they must compete in one of the following events: UWW Nationals in Las Vegas, MN/USAW State Freestyle/Greco tournament or the Northern Plains Regional Championships (or any other USA Wrestling Regional Championship).  All of these events are open to anyone of age to compete in.

MN/USA State FS/GR Information

Some wrestlers will be competing in the UWW U17 and U15 World Team Trials in Las Vegas next weekend.  Good luck to any MN wrestlers competing.  All place winners from these tournaments will be guaranteed a spot on the MN Cadet Fargo team this summer at their declared weight.  

NORTHERN PLAINS REGIONAL:

• The week after the Cadet State tournament is the Northern Plains Regional at RCTC in Rochester, MN. 
• Weigh-ins at RCTC are Friday morning, May 10th at 10:00 am for Greco.
• This weigh-in counts for Freestyle also if competing in both. 
• The Cadet Greco competition starts at 1:00 p.m. on Friday and concludes that day. 
• Freestyle competes on Saturday, May 11th and starts at 1:00 p.m. for 16U/Cadets and completes on Sunday, May 12th. 
• You can weigh-in for Freestyle only on Friday evening from 6:00-7:00 p.m. 
• This event is open to anyone, no qualification necessary. 
• We encourage every 16U age wrestler to participate at the State tournaments, but if you have a conflict the weekend of State, please get to the Northern Plains tournaments.  The top 6 placers in each weight get an auto spot for the Cadet Nationals in Fargo at that same style. The top 3 place winners at each weight also earn seeding points for the Cadet Duals teams which is very important.  

Northern Plains Regional Championships FS/GR Registration

Fargo camps for Cadet Freestyle and Greco are May 18th (Waconia H.S.), June 29th (wrestle-offs as needed, STMA H.S.) and July 10-11th at Augsburg University in Minneapolis.  We are doing a combined camp for both styles this year.  Please save the dates in your summer schedule.  Everyone of Cadet-age (born in 2008 and 2009) are eligible to be in camp if they have competed at a qualifying tournament of UWW Trials, State FS or Greco or Northern Plains Regionals (or any of the Regionals in other parts of the country).  Registration link for Camp is coming.  Everyone is required to register for Camp and declare a weight by June 25th. The Cadet Freestyle National team will be traveling to Fargo on July 14th and competing on the 15th, 16th, and 17th.  The Cadet Greco National team will be traveling to Fargo on July 18th and competing on the 19th, and 20th.

Uniforms are not included in the camp/tournament or Cadet Duals fee this year, they are to be purchased separately.  Included in the camp fee is a camp T-shirt and a Fargo team Nike T-shirt if you make the team and 2 T-shirts in the Duals fee.  The required National Team uniform of 2 Nike singlets, a Nike jacket, and a pair of basic shorts are available at https://www.jrwrestling.com/wrestling-apparel/mn-storm-apparel.html .    Please get these ordered as soon as possible if you haven’t already.  They will be available for sizing, purchase, and pre-order pick-up at Hutchinson, the state tournaments and Northern Plains.  If you order ahead of time you can select pick-up at warehouse and pick them up at the state tournament.  We are requesting that they be ordered by the time of these tournaments being over so that we know if we need to order more in. If you pre-order you can select pick-up at warehouse when checking out and pick them up at the big tournaments or various practices.
