On May 14, 2020 USA Wrestling distributed “Return to the Mat Guidelines”, a copy of which can be found at: https://content.themat.com/covid-19/USAW-Return-to-the-Mat-Guidelines.pdf. The guidelines and recommendations were developed based upon the review of the Return to Sport recommendations provided by the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee, and the information and advice from the USA Wrestling COVID-19 Committee members. The document was created based on the most current and accurate information available to USA Wrestling. The guidelines detail a Four-Phase implementation process as we begin to resume wrestling and within each phase are specific guidelines and limitations with respect to training, practices, and events. All USA Wrestling Sanctioned events and USA Wrestling Chartered Club practices are to comply with USA Wrestling’s “Return to the Mat Guidelines”.
Minnesota’s Stay-At-Home Order is to expire on May 18 at which point the “Stay Safe Minnesota” order goes into effect. Under the guidelines put forth in the “Stay Safe Minnesota” order, Minnesota would fall into Phase 3 of USA Wrestling’s “Return to the Mat Guidelines”. Parents, Wrestlers, Coaches, and Wrestling Leaders should familiarize themselves with the Return to Mat Guidelines as the guidelines are very detailed; however, in summary, the scope of Phase 3 allows for group training with less than 10 individuals provided that participants do not have signs or symptoms of COVID-19 in the past 14 days, and no direct or indirect contact is to occur between the athletes and/or coaches. Social distancing must be maintained during Phase 3 activities at all times.
The “Return to the Mat Guidelines” require all state and local rules and restrictions to be taken into account so while the “Stay Safe Minnesota” order places the state of Minnesota currently in Phase 3, if a local city or county has implemented more restrictive measures, that particular city or county may be in a more restrictive Phase. Please note that this is a continuously evolving situation under which MN/USA Wrestling will continue to monitor. As the restrictions for the State of Minnesota change, our organization will provide updates indicating if Minnesota has entered a more restrictive phase or a less restrictive phase. Please feel free to visit our website at www.mnusawrestling.org regularly as the homepage will identify the current phase for the State of Minnesota under USA Wrestling’s “Return to the Mat Guidelines”.
